Perdue to head NAST
Released Dec. 3, 2004
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- West Virginia State Treasurer John Perdue began a one-year term Friday as president of the National Association of State Treasurers.
The association, with headquarters in Lexington, is comprised of state treasurers from across the nation. Members meet periodically to discuss fiscal issues affecting states, exchange ideas, set formal association policy and lobby Congress on legislative matters relating to states’ treasury operations.
Perdue has been an active member of NAST since taking over as West Virginia treasurer in January of 1997. He has served the last year as senior vice president.
As NAST president, Perdue will fight for the right of states to return unclaimed U.S. Savings Bonds to their rightful owners; lobby Congress for standardization of all 529 college savings plans; and champion financial education for high school seniors as they enter college.
Indiana State Treasurer Tim Berry is wrapping up his term as NAST president. Jody Wagner of Virginia takes over as senior vice president and Denise Nappier of Connecticut as secretary-treasurer.
